Eighty-eight delegates representing chapters from all over the United States gathered in Omaha’s Old Market Embassy Suites for Christ Child Society’s 47th National Convention, September 18-21.
The theme, “Rise and Shine,” was evident throughout the three days of learning, networking and celebrating Christ Child’s mission to help support children and families in need.
The event kicked off with an inspirational keynote featuring Father Gregory Boyle, a Jesuit Catholic Priest who founded Homeboy Industries, the world’s largest gang intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program. Following was a session on identifying personal strengths, using Gallup’s StrengthFinder to enhance development, personal engagement and succession planning. There was also an update on the canonization process for founder Mary Virginia Merrick, and breakout sessions focused on literacy and development.
Omaha Board member Barb Greene led a session about best practices for using Zelle, Venmo, QR codes and fundraising through websites. Chapter reps Mallory Anderl, Ainsley Kumar and Shannon Herink shared insights on Christ Child’s next generation, and Past President Sue Seline, who currently serves on the national board, facilitated a conversation with nationally respected philanthropy expert Mark Weber about the art of giving.
Between sessions, delegates could sew baby blankets or visit Layette Land, where chapters displayed what they provide in their layettes, for ideas and inspiration. Delegates also visited local sites including The Cloisters on the Platte, Boys Town, Lauritzen Gardens, and the Eileen Ryan Christ Child Center in Rockbrook.
Thank you to the major sponsors of this year’s event: Physicians Mutual, Global Vending Group, Regal Awards and Comfy Cubs. The 2025 Convention will be in Bethesda, Maryland, Sept. 11-13.
